Mathew 6:17-18 But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that your fasting will not be obvious to men, but only to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

James 5:15-16 Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick. The Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.

When someone consecrates and sanctifies something with oil, they set it apart for God’s use. Israelites consecrated priests and holy objects, setting them apart for God’s work. God used an important cultural symbol and practice to foreshadow the presence of the Holy Spirit. When a person was anointed in the Old testament, the Holy Spirit descends upon that person.

Using anointing oil is not just an old testament practice. Even the disciples used anointing oil. Mark 6:13 And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them. Even Jesus was anointed several times in the Bible. As believers our salvation was bought with a price. Jesus laid down his life for us. We have been born again into a new family. Blessed with a deposit of God's Holy Spirit living within us. This consecrate us and sets us apart for God's work.

Today we baptize, we partake in communion, we pray, we speak in tongues and we fast. Let me ask you when is the last time you were anointed, or you anointed someone? I encourage you to incorporate this practice into your fasting and your relationship with God.

    The woman who anointed Jesus

A SINFUL WOMAN anoints his feet With the woman’s tears and hair

One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to eat with him. Jesus went into the Pharisee’s house and sat at the table. A sinful woman in the town learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house. So she brought an alabaster jar of perfume. She stood at Jesus’ feet, crying, and began to wash his feet with her tears. She dried his feet with her hair, kissed them many times and rubbed them with the perfume.

    LUKE 7:36-48

36 When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. 37 A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. 38 As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.

39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.”

40 Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.”

    “Tell me, teacher,” he said.

41 “Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii,[a] and the other fifty. 42 Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”

43 Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.”

“You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.

44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”

48 Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”

JESUS visits Mary, Martha and Lazarus Mary ANOINTS his feet with her hair

Six days before Passover, Jesus was at the home of Simon the leper (who Jesus healed from the leprosy). A woman came to him with an alabaster jar full of expensive perfume. She poured it on his head while he was seated at the table. May of the disciples were annoyed by the waste of expensive perfume. Jesus replied that this gospel will be told in memory of her. She has to prepare his body for burial.

    JOHN 12:1-8

1 Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. 3 Then Mary took about a pint[a] of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

4 But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, 5 “Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year’s wages.[b]” 6 He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.

7 “Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. 8 You will always have the poor among you,[c] but you will not always have me.”

    MATTHEW 26:6-10

6 While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper, 7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.

8 When the disciples saw this, they were anoyed at Ω. “Why this waste?” they asked. 9 “This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.”

10 Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 11 The poor you will always have with you,[a] but you will not always have me. 12 When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. 13 Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”

    MARK 14:1-9

1 Now the Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread were only two days away, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were scheming to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. 2 “But not during the festival,” they said, “or the people may riot.”

3 While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.

4 Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? 5 It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages[a] and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly.

6 “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7 The poor you will always have with you,[b] and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me. 8 She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial. 9 Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”

    DIY Anointing Oil and Prayer

    Supplies Needed

    - Faith

    - Glass container

    - Extra light olive oil

    - Your favorite essential oils (optional)

    1. Place the glass bottle on a table. Remove the metal cap. Use extra light olive oil to carefully pour olive oil into the bottle.

Fill bottle to the base of the bottle neck. Wipe away any excess oil from the bottle that may have spilled during the filling process.

    2. This is a perfect time to add a few drops of your favorite essential oils to the bottle. Only add 1-2 drops at a time to ensure the fragrance is not overpowering. Put the cap on the bottle to close. If essential oils have been used gently turn the bottle upside down several times to evenly mix the oils.

Do not shake, as shaking will create micro bubbles.

    3. Consecrate your oil with the following prayer:

Abba Father in the name of Jesus I lift up this anointing oil to you.

On its own it is just oil, but I ask you in the name of Jesus to anoint this oil that I am holding before you. Transform it into Holy Anointing Oil. Concentrate it for your work. May it bring glory and honor to the name of Jesus. Abba I ask that in Jesus name where ever this oil is applied sickness, viruses, diseases, cancer and pest that creep, crawl and fly are instantly cast out. Wherever this oil is applied at Abba in Jesus name I ask that circumstances change, failure becomes success, doors are opened, chaos is replaced with peace, lack becomes abundance and darkness is overcome and overtaken by your light. In the name of Jesus I ask that wherever this oil is applied relationships are restored, hearts are healed, youth is renewed, minds are set free and your peace abounds. Abba I ask that in Jesus name wherever this oil is applied that there is abundant provision, divine protection, wisdom and Zoe life. Wherever this oil is applied at Abba in Jesus name I ask that limbs and organs are replaced, prayers are answered, souls are saved and the dead are raised. Abba wherever this oil is applied let the name of Jesus be glorified and my life.

    In Jesus name Amen

    4. Store your anointing oil in a cool area and keep it out of direct sunlight.
