3 Tips For A Successful Fast

Have a plan

Come up with a plan for your fast or basic rules before you start. What type of fast will you be doing? When will you spend time praying? What are you allowed to have?  Having these things planned out before you fast will make it easier for you. Once you start fasting your flesh will always want to bend the rules or compromise. Especially , in regards to what and when you can eat.

Keep It simple

Don't over complicate things. If you are doing a Daniel fast choose snacks and meals that are quick and easy. Baby carrots, apples, nuts etc are perfect grab and go items that you can snack on at your desk. During a fast you wan to spend more time in fellowship or praising God than preparing meals. While there are many tempting and elaborate recipes allover the internet your food prep time should decrease during a fast not increase. As a mom I  find it easy to plan meals that the whole family can enjoy. Making sure that there are 1-2 sides that I can have with a few easy modifications. 

Stay Focused

When you are fasting, especially  for the 1st few days your flesh will push the boundaries you have set for it. While you don't need to scream from the roof tops and tell the whole world that you are fasting,; having an accountability partner can go a long way. Pick someone you can trust and confide in. It should be a fellow believer you are close to who can also support you in prayer. A great way to stay focused is to touch base with each other for 5 min at the end of the day.  You can recap the highlights of the day and say a prayer. It would be great if you could fast together next time.
