I love good food and I love fasting. You don't have to choose between the two. Believe it or not you can have good biblical foods that heal while fasting. Most people don't fast or fail at keeping to fast dietary restrictions because they run out of ideas and don't know what to make or what to cook. The first miracle Jesus did was to turn water into wine and the word wine is mentioned more than 230 times in the Bible. But let’s be realistic, while there maybe a few health benefits, it's not essential to our daily lives. Abstaining from alcohol, liquor or weed is an amazing fast that will give you greater clarity. If you find yourself indulging on a daily basis then this is the best fast for you. Sometimes we can't hear God speak because of all the static that daily drinking and smoking can cause on the lines of communication. 

Go Meatless

A lot of people today take medication, need to monitor their blood sugar, maybe pregnant or breastfeeding. A meatless fast allows you to still eat throughout the day as much or as often as needed, but still gives you the opportunity to take control of your flesh. 375 million people in the world are vegetarian and there are plenty of meatless vegan options easily available. The machine we call our bodies will start to run smoother, more efficiently and who knows you might actually enjoy it.

The average American consumes 152 pounds of sugar and spends about $1,100 a year on coffee. Let's not forget other caffeinated drinks. Soda pop consumption adds up to about 45 gallons per person yearly. Sugar and caffeine are just as addictive as cocaine and can be damaging to the brain and body. Refined or processed sugar is about 99.7 percent pure calories, with no vitamins, minerals, fats, or proteins. Like sugar, caffeine provides no nutritional value on its own. Caffeine is a fast-acting stimulant that can increase your blood pressure and heart rate, disrupt sleep and reduce blood flow to the brain. If you have a sweet tooth or several cups of coffee a day, this is the fast for you. It won't be easy, but your body will thank you.

Mac and cheese, bread, French fries, chips oh my! I could go on and on. Some of our favorite comfort foods are pure processed starch and carbs, AKA bad fats. These bad saturated fats raise your cholesterol and increase your risk of heart disease and stroke. After you fast from these try replacing them with good fats like fiber-rich fruits/veggies and complex carbs or whole grains.

Oh Baby I like It raw

If you are looking for added detoxing benefits during your fast, challenge your flesh with a raw food only fast. Not raw meat, but raw meaning plant based that has never been heated over 104–118°F. It should also not be refined, pasteurized, treated with pesticides or otherwise processed in any way. This type of fast promotes a high quality detox filled with juicing, blending, dehydrating, soaking and sprouting as different food preparation techniques. 

Sunrise to sunset 

This is a great fast for people looking to really challenge their flesh. During a sunrise to sunset fast, you typically don't eat while the sun is shining or after midnight. This forces you to only consume water most of the day, consume only 1 regular sized meal after sunset and say no to food repeatedly throughout the day. You'll be surprised how much extra time you have when you're not eating during the day.

Social media, celebrities and the news are constantly bombarding us every day. It clutters your day, sucks your time and stresses you out. One of the hardest fasts to do is a social media back out. But if you fill that extra time with praise, prayer, study and worship it can also be one of the most rewarding fasts ever.  


I'm a mom, a wife and I have a bit of a life. All of these recipes are designed to be super easy with quick meal prep and cook times. If you do them in order some of them will build off of each other from one day to the next. All of them have half-homemade options and hacks just in case you are in a rush or crunched for time, grocery store shopping list for the week and if you like you can easily add your favorite protein if you aren't doing a meatless fast.
